Tattoo Preparation
-
Get a good night’s sleep before your appointment and arrive well rested.
-
Stay hydrated during the days leading up to your tattoo.
-
Eat a full meal before your appointment. Avoid coming on an empty stomach.
-
Avoid alcohol before your session, as it may increase bleeding.
-
Keep the area moisturized in the days beforehand, but arrive with clean skin free of lotions, oils, or body products.
-
Avoid sunburn, tanning, cuts, irritation, or damage to the area being tattooed. If the skin is irritated, your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
-
Wear clean, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo placement.
-
Bring a valid photo ID and anything requested for your appointment.
-
For longer sessions, feel free to bring water, a snack, headphones, or something to help you stay comfortable.
-
If you have a medical condition, allergy, skin condition, or take medication that could affect your tattoo or healing, discuss it with your healthcare provider and let your artist know before your appointment.
Tattoo Aftercare
-
Always follow the specific aftercare instructions provided by your artist, especially regarding when to remove your bandage or protective film.
-
Wash your hands before touching your new tattoo.
-
Once instructed to uncover it, gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry—do not scrub.
-
Apply only a thin layer of the recommended fragrance-free moisturizer. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends water-based lotion or cream when tattooed skin feels dry.
-
Do not scratch, pick, or peel flakes or scabs. Allow the tattoo to heal naturally.
-
Avoid swimming, pools, hot tubs, baths, and prolonged soaking while the tattoo is healing.
-
Avoid direct sun exposure while healing. Once completely healed, protect your tattoo with broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30+ to help prevent fading.
-
Avoid tight or dirty clothing rubbing against the fresh tattoo.
-
Mild redness, tenderness, itching, and flaking can occur during normal healing. If you develop worsening or spreading redness, significant swelling, increasing pain, pus/drainage, fever, or other concerning symptoms, seek medical attention.
